Why Phang Nga Bay?

Over 40 limestone karsts rising from emerald water, hidden sea caves, ancient cave paintings, mangrove forests, and the iconic James Bond Island. Phang Nga Bay is one of the great natural wonders of Southeast Asia — and exploring it by private yacht is categorically different from a shared longtail tour. You move at your own pace, stop where you want, and anchor in silence while the day-trippers head home.

Best Time to Visit

Year-round. The bay is sheltered from the southwest monsoon by the mountainous Phang Nga coastline, making it one of the few destinations that works beautifully even during green season. June to September can bring dramatic storm light and empty anchorages — an atmospheric time to visit for experienced travellers. The clearest water and calmest conditions come from December through March.

What to Do

Kayak through the collapsing cave systems at Koh Panak and Koh Hong — the hidden lagoons inside are accessible only at low to mid tide and are completely invisible from the water outside. Visit James Bond Island (Khao Phing Kan) early morning to beat the longtail boats. Swim in the sheltered bays around Naka Noi. Explore the floating fishing village of Koh Panyi for lunch. Anchor in a quiet bay for a late afternoon swim before heading back as golden hour hits the karsts.

Practical Tips

Bring reef-safe sunscreen — national park regulations increasingly require it. Water shoes are useful for rocky kayak landings. A mid-morning departure (9am) works better than early start for the cave kayaking as you want low-to-mid tide at Koh Panak around 11am. National park fees apply and vary by nationality.

Charter Pricing

From 42,900 THB on the Ocean Pearl (42ft sport cruiser) to 135,000 THB on the Cranchi Scenery 58ft. Most charters depart from Ao Po Grand Marina on Phuket's north east coast, cutting travel time to the bay significantly compared to departing from Chalong.
